Make Every Day Employee Appreciation Day

Employee recognition and appreciation are the pillars of every high-performing team. They are crucial for employee motivation and retention as employers remind employees that they are invaluable and belong to their positions in the workplace. While a National Employee Appreciation Day has been set aside, employee recognition must be intentional and personalized.

Research by Workhuman and Gallup highlighted that an intentional recognition plan at a company tremendously increases employee engagement at work, their feeling of belonging, well-being, and most importantly, retention. At Calix, we are people-focused and celebrate our employees every day. We are dedicated to "Taking Care of Our Own" and have created a workplace that advances the careers of millennial employees while laying a platform for Gen Z to build from and thrive. Below are some of the employee appreciation elements we embody at Calix.

Wellness and Mindfulness

Work, however enjoyable, can be intensive, even for the most passionate of employees, but taking time to rest is equally important. At Calix, our employees enjoy the autonomy of taking time off to recharge. Whether it's to spend time with family or get some rest, we support their choices. We have designed Recharge and Productivity programs that enable our employees to refuel. Additionally, our recharge days allow our employees to participate in community engagement activities of their choice, strengthening their connection to causes they are passionate about.

Our focus and support of employee well-being go beyond the physical and mental. For example, we encourage mindfulness and overall mental well-being. Our employees are also empowered to take charge of and improve their mental well-being through wellness tools like Unmind.

We also enhance our employees' social and even financial wellness. For example, our total cash compensation strategy alleviates our employees' financial insecurities and settles their anxieties at work. In this way, Calix is enabling employees to focus on their professional missions.

Gifts

Gifts are a love language. At Calix, we reciprocate our employees ‘acts of service’ with carefully crafted and thoughtful gifts. We invite our employees to choose their gifts from the Calix Company Store and also enable direct line leaders to appreciate their reports and even their families for contributing to company success.

Employee Appreciation Video

Videos, just like pictures, are a thousand and more words. At Calix, we express our gratitude to our employees from all over the world in video format. That way, they can always refer back to the video, hear it from our mouths, and read from our body language how much we are honored to have them work with us. In 2023, we thanked our employees for showing up at Calix and their massive contribution towards our success in 2022.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Recognition doesn’t just stop at an employee’s work output. Peterson-Ward, the Chief Customer Officer at Workhuman says that recognition and appreciation should include all the employees at a workplace, their diverse backgrounds considered. At Calix, our employees attest to our commitment to inclusion and equity. A company's focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion is intertwined with employee recognition, working to create the transformative forces needed for overall and long-term company success.

Honoring Employees

Last month, March 3, marked National Employee Appreciation Day, an opportunity to celebrate employees for their immense contribution to the company and their loved ones who support and cheer them on as they continue to work. Beyond this day, applaud them not just every day but genuinely. Ensure they feel seen, heard, and felt. Make it even more engaging by enabling teams to shout each other out during meetings. That way, your team cohesion is strengthened, and employees can look up to each other for inspiration. Touch their innermost beings by giving them long-term benefits and priceless recognition.
